The new Volvo S60 will go on sale this spring, but without a diesel engine. So the automaker is talking about its commitment to a long-term future beyond the traditional internal combustion engine. Volvo is one of the industry's strongest advocates for electrification.
“Our future is electric and we will no longer be developing a new generation of diesel engines,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.
Electrification strategy
All new Volvo models released from 2019 will be either hybrids or electric vehicles.
“The new S60 represents the next step in this direction,” added Samuelsson.
Availability and production
Initially, the Volvo S60 will be available with a four-cylinder Drive-E petrol engine, as well as two hybrid versions.
