Porsche has announced that orders for the 2019 911 Speedster Limited Edition can begin. Unlike many "special" models from other manufacturers, the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster is indeed special. It is timed to coincide with the company's 70th sports car. The 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster is priced at $274,500, plus shipping will cost $1,250.
Many will say that it is and inexpensive compared to hypercars. But everything in the world is relative. In any case, this money will be fully justified. But each option of such a car will cost the price of Honda Civic. As they say, the rich have their own quirks.
Technical features of the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster
However, while it's common to admire Porsche, experts disagree with the average person. For that money, the buyer will get a 4.0-liter flat-six pumping out 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque. That is, to use engineering slang, the car gets a lot of power.
More than enough to accelerate from zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 192 miles per hour. Of course, it's going to be an interesting car because unlike many other specialty models, the 2019 Speedster wasn't developed by the marketing department.
The car came from a brainstorming session with Porsche's motorsport department at Weissach. The windshield and side windows are in traditional speedster style, and the top is a lightweight fabric convertible top. There are even two carbon fiber "fairings" (headrest fairings) in the rear seat for added functionality.
Inside the 911 Speedster, everything is done with an emphasis on the fundamentals. The door panels are lightweight with storage nets to reduce weight. The door sills have "Speedster" lettering and are made of carbon fiber. The seats are upholstered in plain black leather. But if you want to keep things luxurious, you can get red stitching for the dashboard and red "Speedster" stitching on the headrests. A GT Sport steering column with a red 12-hour center marker is also available for customers to order.
Restraint squared
The car is made to look like it was prescribed a strict diet by the athletic department, necessary to lighten the weight. The front cover, front fenders, and rear cover are made of carbon fiber, and it weighs only 22 pounds. The front and rear panels are made of lightweight polyurethane. Further savings come from Porsche's ceramic composite brakes, which reduce their contribution to weight performance by about 50 percent compared to cast-iron rotors.
Air conditioning? None, but it can be added at no extra cost. A six-speed manual transmission saves approximately nine pounds. Oh yeah, also, does the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster come with a manual transmission? Well, it does! Note to enthusiasts.
When you add it all up, the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster weighs 3,230 pounds. No, it's not as light as the Lotus, but for a Porsche, that's not bad.
And the engine, too!
This engine is based on the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS units, which have been enhanced with a special throttle linkage. New fuel injection and high-pressure exhaust systems save another 22 pounds. In addition, the chassis is borrowed from the 911 GT3 and showcases rear axle steering and dynamic engine mounts for greater precision and stability. Finally, the 20-inch Satin Black wheels with center lock and high-performance tires look very cool.
Limited Edition
Porsche is now $274,500 plus for the new Speedster. Only 1,948 cars will be produced.
