2019 RDX Prototype Unveils Acura's Largest Redesign

The 2019 Acura RDX Prototype made its world debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show.

Lighter and more

The third generation RDX was engineered on a lighter platform with a stiffer body.

“Combine it with our new powertrain, stiffer body and chassis, and improved steering, and you have your hands on the fastest and most efficient RDX ever,” said John Ikeda, vice president and general manager of the Acura division. Division of America

The RDX prototype also has a wider track (up 1.2 inches), a longer wheelbase (gaining 2.5 inches) and a shorter front overhang.

Power and performance

Motivation The RDX is a new 2.0-litre direct injection unit with 16 valves.

The Adaptive Damper system is available and linked to the integrated NSX dynamic system system.

Interior Design

Speaking of the interior, it's more spacious, more sophisticated and more tech than before.

The passenger compartment is larger thanks to the RDX's longer wheelbase with room for five.

Everything is controlled by Acura's new True Touchpad interface.

"The new Acura user interface will be a huge step forward for our customers," said Mikoshiba.

And to take it all away, there's a full boss stereo system.

Production and face

All RDX models for the North American market will be built in East Liberty, Ohio with engines built in Anna, Ohio and a 10-speed automatic transmission built in Tallapous, Georgia.

At the same time, the car is on display at the North American International Auto Show at the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit.
