Today we have an exclusive set of 2020 Kia Sorento next-generation spy shots seen inside for the first time thanks to our colleagues at Autopost. Dubbed the MQ4, the new Sorento will come with an evolutionary and bolder design in line with this render.
What do we know so far?
Kia will offer hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. Also, a fuel cell option is under study as the Sorento SUV, whose higher price tag could justify the cost of a fuel cell powertrain, is highly likely to be the beneficiary of a hydrogen-powered variant.
Kia already has a fuel cell vehicle sold in Korea, but this model is not sold in the US or Europe. “In the future, we are looking at a fuel cell in a larger vehicle.” says Arthur Martins, Vice President of Marketing for Kia Motors Europe “But it depends a bit on how the European market is progressing. It works better on a bigger car because the customer is willing to pay more on a bigger car.”
We also have a lot of new details confirming his words. The next generation Sorento will debut before the end of 2019. These are the very first spy shots of the new generation Sorento SV, which is expected as the 2020 Kia Sorento model in the US market. It will be a complete model change, not a facelift, with a completely new design.
The Tiger Nose grille is one of the salient features of this new model that we can see despite the heavy camouflage layer. The grill shape is in line with what we've seen on the latest SUV from Kia, the Telluride, a model that Kia executives say will share its angular body shape with the next generation Sorento & Sportage.
And looking at the photos, we can confirm that this is true, and the next generation Kia Sorento will change from the more rounded design of the current one to more angular and straighter lines, like what we saw on the Telluride.
As for the powertrain, while future Hybrid & Plug-in Hybrid variants will use the latest Hyundai-Kia technology, including the rooftop Solar Panels charging system, details have yet to be revealed. — qq
