Hyundai recently debuted its new 2020 Sonata at the New York International Auto Show. Consumers have become accustomed to the fact that Hyundai offers only the best in every price segment. This company is constantly improving its skills, so the brand is often chosen by customers for the optimal price-quality ratio. It is the 2020 Hyundai Sonata that is considered one of the best choices among consumers.
The main thoughts of the review that arise when examining the new model:
- The 2020 Hyundai Sonata strikes the perfect balance between performance and price.
- The new 2020 Hyundai Sonata features improved communications with the outside world compared to the previous generation.
- Buyers can choose between two engines. This is not much, but enough to satisfy requests.
Straight to the money
The best part about the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is the combination of style, available features and, above all, price. Hyundai figured out how to make good cars that combine a wide range of technologies and affordable cost for the consumer. Many people think of Hyundai as a fake fashion brand. But this is actually not the case, the cars are authentic, representative, well assembled and finished. They deserve premium ratings, and the low price is only an integral advantage.
“Sonata is our signature product,” explained Mike O'Brien, VP of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “As one of our first and most successful fashion models, the Sonata is our legacy. And it should be special and memorable in all projections.”
“The next generation Sonata is a completely transformed vehicle, equipped with cutting-edge personalization technology, a new platform and a suite of ADAS technologies,” added Albert Biermann, president of Hyundai Motor Group's RD division. "We are confident that our customers will be pleasantly surprised by the features of this innovative new model."
Design language: modern yet pleasant
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata embodies Hyundai's "Sensual Sportiness" design language with a "sophisticated four-door coupe design." The company has said this over and over again. All in all, you can look at the design of the 2020 Sonata this way: it's nice, it's modern, and over time, first impressions fade. Convenient technologies will remain in one of the richest functional packages on the market.
Despite such a high rating, yet experts believe that Hyundai is unable to have original designs. Hyundai is more interested in producing cars that combine three features: low price, rich features, fashion-conscious. That’s exactly what the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is, but it looks great.
“Sonata, as a whole, describes our vision for the future development of Hyundai. The vehicles will combine excellent active safety systems with cutting-edge technologies that require no driver or customer effort,” O'Brien said.
Power and performance: two versions available
Buying a Hyundai Sonata 2020, the customer gets one of two engines to choose from. In the factory documentation of the South Korean automaker, they are called "Smartstream gasoline powertrains." One engine is a 2.5-liter GDI (gasoline direct injection) and the other is a 1.6-liter turbocharged (referred to as "T").
The cars come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Smartstream 2.5 delivers 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The other engine, the 1.6 turbo, produces nearly the same power: 180 horsepower, 195 lb-ft of torque.
Hyundai never really explains how to choose between two great options. Hyundai buyers tend to focus on other things than just speed. They care about comfort, safety and entertainment opportunities while they are on the road.
"Smart and beautiful" ... your car
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata will hit showrooms with the Beautifully Smart theme. But while the principles of the marketing company are not disclosed. A large and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster sits at the center of the traditional dashboard. It can be customized to suit different driving modes and your preferences. At the very center of the dashboard is another large 10.25-inch HD screen that makes audio-video and navigation functions accessible.
Speaking of audio, the latest Sonata features a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system. Hyundai says the audio and equalizer settings automatically adapt to the vehicle's speed. Despite the advantage, it is difficult to appreciate it, since the car is not a concert hall.
Bluetooth and digital keys
All of this is wrapped up in what Hyundai calls "convenience technologies." The 2020 Hyundai Sonata has plenty of comfort and convenience normally only found in luxury vehicles. The Sonata also comes with a sunroof, with two wireless transmitters. Heated and ventilated front seats are available, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The wireless Qi panel is equipped with a fan, text-to-speech function, and can be connected via Bluetooth.
Support for two Bluetooth channels means that two devices can be connected at the same time. What for? One for phone calls and one for audio streaming.
Hyundai uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for a secure digital key. Data transfer occurs only when the device and the reader are next to each other. So the 2020 Sonata can tell when you're around. It can also lock and unlock the car, activate the alarm or start the engine. Oddly enough, Hyundai Digital Key is only compatible with Android phones. So you're a little out of luck if you have an iPhone. Yes, all Sonatas can still be bought with traditional keys.
Security squared
Of course, this machine has all the variety of safety features. For example:
- the new Sonata has three radar sensors;
- 2 ultrasonic sensors;
- five cameras.
They support a number of security features. Like Direct Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Enhanced Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Highway Traffic Assist. Digital assistants are also available:
- Lane Follow Assist;
- Safe Exit Assist;
- Blind Spot Monitor;
- dead zone collision warning;
- assistance in avoiding a collision in a parking lot when reversing.
Door handles have one interesting feature called "Touch Sensor Outside Door Handles". To lock the car, you can simply touch the sensor on the outside of the door handle. If you pull the handle, you will activate the sensor on the inside of the handle to open the door. It can be more precisely expressed that this car literally feels its owner.
Prices
This crazy amount of technology will be available in showrooms this fall. To date, the price of the new Sonata is unknown.
