At first glance, the new BMW X5 looks like an ordinary SUV, but it is much faster than you might expect. Therefore, do not call it an ordinary SUV. A sport utility vehicle, if you will. At least that's what BMW says.

At over 5,000 pounds, it's hard to be a canyon climber. However, this is a great occasion to gather friends and just drive along the roads. You can even go off-road if you really want to.

Depending on the choice of engine, the BMW X5 will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 to 5.6 seconds. An excellent indicator considering the weight and shape of this beast.

Engine selection

The BMW X5 xDrive40i is equipped with a 3-liter 6-cylinder engine. The maximum power of the engine will be 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft. torque. But the version of the BMW X5 xDrive50i is already more interesting. It has a 4.4 liter 8-cylinder engine. This mill puts out 456 horsepower with a maximum torque of 479 lb-ft.

Many people have a question, why are 3 and 4.4 liter engines installed on the xDrive40i and xDrive50i versions, and not as indicated in the marking? The question is certainly interesting. In my opinion, only the manufacturer knows the answer to it.

Transmission and transmission technologies

Each engine is mated to a new version of Bavarian's eight-speed Steptronic transmission with wider distribution and new control electronics for overall efficiency.

The latest generation of BMW xDrive makes it possible to distribute torque between the front and rear wheels with even greater precision. And to improve efficiency, power can only be directed to the rear wheels.

Laser focus

The new BMW X5 models come with BMW Laserlights adaptive LED headlights.

The technology involves blue x-shaped elements that separate hexagonal light sources inside conventional headlights.

Interior decoration

The wide instrument panel with horizontal lines and galvanized finish emphasize the luxury of the interior. Fully digital gauges and new center display. The iDrive controller helps the driver stay focused on the road.

The new Vernasca leather upholstery is available in five colours. Sports seats are standard electrically adjustable and heated. Optional multi-function seats with massage and ventilation are also available.

Musical arrangement is a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 20 speakers and 1500W output. Rear-seat entertainment includes a pair of 10.2-inch Full-HD touchscreen displays compatible with a Blu-ray DVD player, two USB ports, an HDMI connector, and two headphone jacks.
