Like any other high-end car manufacturer, Lamborghini has taken up restoration work. The division dealing with these issues is called Lamborghini Polo Storico. The choice of this restoration unit as the first experimental car fell on the Lamborghini Miura SVR.

Buyer history

The Lamborghini Miura needs no introduction. The model was named after the famous breeder of Spanish fighting bulls. The transverse V12 engine, great styling and all that has become an integral part of this model's style. Ferruccio himself made changes and released a number of versions: Miura P400, then P400 S, then P400 SV. SV Jota was supposed to be the final version. And at the top was the rarest P400 SVR.

This Miura started out as an S version. It was first delivered to the Lamborauto dealership in Turin on November 30, 1968. After the car changed eight owners, in 1974 it was bought by the German Heinz Straber. Straber brought it back to Sant'Agata to be turned into a racing car.

Traveling around the world

In 1976, the car was sold to a Japanese man named Hiromitsu Ito, who drove it home to Japan. The Miura SVR, designed by Lamborghini test driver Bob Wallace, was the inspiration for the Circuit Wolf comic book series. The Miura SVR was later used as the reference model for the toy version of Kyosho. Relentless customer demand led Automobili Lamborghini to create several Miura SVJ models and one Miura SVR.

And so, we gradually crept up to the day when the car fell into the hands of Polo Storico specialists.

“The full restoration took 19 months and required a completely different approach,” explained Paolo Gabrielli, director of Polo Storico and Lamborghini Head of After Sales. “The original production sheet didn't come in very handy as we relied heavily on the 1974 revision specs. The challenge for the Polo Storico team was even more challenging as the car arrived in Sant'Agata piecemeal."

Handle with care

Lamborghini Polo Storico is a specialized division that restores and certifies Lamborghini models that were released at least 10 years ago.

Polo Storico is also responsible for maintaining archives and records and managing the supply of original spare parts for classic cars. Lamborghini officials say they intend to produce enough OE parts to supply more than 65% to their models in any given year.
