New Hyundai IONIQ Maintains Five-Star Euro NCAP Crash Test Rating

The new Hyundai IONIQ has officially retained its maximum five-star rating from the independent Euro NCAP for crash safety.

The IONIQ Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric versions of the New IONIQ retain this maximum score.

When it comes to protecting adult and young occupants, pedestrians or the safety systems that support them, the new IONIQ sets the standard in all Euro NCAP evaluation criteria - and not just in its class, but also when compared to more expensive vehicles in larger segments.

This five-star award from Euro NCAP shows that our safety strategy in small classes and in combination with alternative drives is the right one. The new Hyundai IONIQ is a very modern vehicle concept that has everything the customer needs.

Standard and optional modern security systems of the new Hyundai IONIQ

TheNew IONIQ's passive safety is facilitated by its lightweight yet rigid chassis and body. High-strength steel alloys provide optimal absorption under high impact loads - these innovative steel alloys make up 53 percent of the overall IONIQ structure. In the event of an accident, just seven airbags protect the passengers inside, including an additional airbag for the driver's knees.

But in order to prevent accidents in the first place, New IONIQ is equipped with SmartSense security systems, including technologies that actively consider potential risk situations. Forward Collision-AvoidanceAssist, which alerts the driver in emergency situations and automatically brakes, is standard. The system is activated when another vehicle, a pedestrian or - new to the updated New IONIQ - cyclistappears, appears in front of the car. Standard equipment also includes LaneKeeping Assist, which prevents the IONIQ from accidentally crossing road signs. Other safety systems such as Blind Collision Warning and Rear Collision Warning are available as options.

The new IONIQ Hybrid and Plug-in is now available. IONIQ Electric will follow in September 2019.
