- This year, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering teamed up with the Petersen Automotive Museum.
- The new show will include six cars and one motorcycle from some of Hollywood's most beloved films.
You know about quails, right? Officially called Quail, Motorsport Gathering, this is one of the most fun things to do in Monterey. You've been to Monterey, right? Well, if not, then go. If you are thinking about returning this year, then definitely do it. Because The Quail is partnering with the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles to make some pretty tasty trips to their annual event.
Hollywood dream cars
I actually covered the Hollywood Dream Machines exhibit at the Petersen Museum back in May. The exhibition features over 40 Hollywood cars, props and costumes. Audi RSQ concept designed by Will Smith of i, Robot; warthog from Halo; The DeLorean Time Machine from Back to the Future, and a host of other instantly recognizable rides are on display. And while it's a funny thing, someone came up with the brilliant idea of taking the show on the road, so to speak.
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering will showcase a collection of these iconic movie cameras from the Petersen Automotive Museum starting Friday 16 August. The exhibition will feature six cars and one motorcycle from our favorite films. Once again, the legendary 1981 DeLorean from Back to the Future will be on display. Michael Keaton's Batmobile from the 1989 Batman movie will also be on display (it will be the first big Hollywood version directed by Tim Burton). They were joined by a 1999 Mach 5 Prototype racing car, based on the classic 1966 animated series Speed Racer. (And it could be the same movie from the Wahowskis movie, but the information is sketchy).

Shagin' wagon
Austin Powers fans can enjoy the "Shagmobile" driven by Mike Myers' 1998 VW Beetle; while those old enough to remember will appreciate the race-ready 1961 VW Beetle from The Love Bug. Wait, scratch it. It's from the 2005 movie Herbie: Fully Loaded, which starred the unfortunate Lindsay Lohan. The last of the six is the 1946 Ford Grease Lightning, built by world famous automaker George Barris for the 1975 film Grease by John Travolta, Olivia Newton John. The lone bike is the LEGO Batcycle.
Special classes
In addition to all the glittery urban glitz and glamour, The Quail will also be doing their spectacular gear related stuff. In essence, the picturesque hills of Quail Lodge & Golf Club feature world-class storefronts. There are three special classes this year. The first will be the 100th anniversary of Bentley Motors, celebrating the title of the best in the United States. Some of Bentley's highlights include the 1929 Le Mans, 1926 Speed Six, Park Ward's 1958 S1 Continental Coupe, and 2018 Supersports. The second special lesson is the McLaren F1 25th Anniversary Celebration which makes me feel older than I am. The third special class is called "Tribute to the electric car".

Family and pets allowed
If you visit, you'll love The Quail's unique garden party setting, with plenty of culinary pavilions, award-winning liquor stores, and a series of fireside chats. You can also take part in the Bonham's Quail Lodge Auction, which takes place simultaneously on the Quail Lodge Farm Field. And film, bring the kids and the dog, because, as always, the show will offer a family friendly and homely environment. More information and a complete list of all celebrations can be found here.
